Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line is the name of the company that falls under The Walt Disney Company and offers cruises aimed at families. The Disney Cruise Line fleet consists of four ships. Although the ships’ home ports are located in America, the ships regularly visit Europe and Canada. The ships sail different routes every year, often through the Caribbean. One of the most popular ports of call is Castaway Cay, the private island of The Walt Disney Company, located in the Bahamas. This island can only be visited during a cruise on one of the Disney ships, which makes it a very popular location.

The fleet

The Disney Cruise Line’s current fleet consists of four ships; Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. The first and last two ships are copies of each other. Two new ships are planned for 2020 and 2021. The names and details of these have not yet been published in 2016.

On July 30, 1998, the Disney Magic was the first ship of Disney Cruise Line to be put into service. The second ship, the Disney Wonder, followed on August 15, 1999. The ships are exact copies of each other in terms of exterior and have the same specifications. As can be expected from Disney, this has been carried out down to the smallest detail. For example, the welding line where the two parts of the Disney Magic are welded together has been copied on the Disney Wonder. The interiors of the ships do contain some differences. A nice detail is that the ship’s horn plays the Disney classic ‘When you wish upon a star’ when leaving the harbour.

Details of the ships:

  • length: 294 meters
  • width: 32.33 meters
  • weight:
  • capacity: 2700 passengers
  • passenger rooms: 870

Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy
Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy were launched in 2011 and 2012 respectively. These boats are also identical in exterior. In terms of interior there are small differences, such as a different theme in the adults area and a different kids club. The boats not only doubled the current fleet, the boats were also made considerably larger than the two predecessors. The boats can be recognized by the slide that goes around the upper deck on both boats. The ships’ horns have also had a significant upgrade compared to the two predecessors. Both boats play When You Wish Upon a Star” (Pinocchio)
