Beaches in Tenerife

Enjoy one of the many beaches that Tenerife has to offer! The beaches are different from Fuerteventura or Gran Canaria, they are small and have dark sand. A different, unique experience.

The most beautiful beaches of Puerto de la Cruz

  • Playa Jardin – This beach consists of 3 bays with a picturesque landscaped garden of 17,000 m2 at the top. There are cafes, a restaurant, walking promenades, sun terraces and a kiosk for musical events.
  • Playa Martianez – A small bay on the newly constructed promenade.
  • Lago Martianez – The world-famous man-made lake on the edge of the sea, the pride of Puerto de la Cruz. It features a traditional architectural style, Canarian flora, beautiful surrounding gardens, long walking paths and original sculptures.
  • Bollullo – A small bay, which can be reached on foot from Puerto de la Cruz.
  • El Socorro – A sandy beach located in a small bay. There are high waves and it is ideal for windsurfing.


The most beautiful beaches in the south

  • Playa Fañabe – A newly constructed, large sandy beach with safety facilities. Lined with a newly constructed promenade, which runs past many open terraces and restaurants.
  • Playa del Duque – A dark-colored beach with calm coastal waters, located on the northern side of Costa Adeje . It is the beach of the five-star Bahia del Duque hotel . One of the most beautiful beaches in the south.
  • Playa de Los Cristianos – From a small fishing village to a tourist attraction. Los Cristianos has a new, wide beach with light-colored sand.
  • El Médano – Behind the airport (with very little nuisance) outside the village you will find the wide beach of El Médano with good surfing opportunities.


Other beaches on Tenerife

  • Playa de la Candelaria – Near the basilica is the wide volcanic sand beach of Candelaria. However, be aware of strong currents and waves, and stick to the coastal strip. Further on you will find Playa Charquito, which is safer. Candelaria offers many restaurants specializing in fresh fish.
  • Playa de las Teresitas – A bright sandy beach with a breakwater, located about 10 kilometers from the capital Santa Cruz. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Tenerife. The beach is 1.5 kilometers long and the sand comes from the African Sahara.
  • Playa de Los Roques – A wild, romantic bay with rocks. The beach consists of black lava sand. Only accessible on foot from Taganana. If you walk south, you will come across several bays.
  • Playa de San Marcos – A small beach located in a bay, near Icod de los Vinos. Sometimes there is a strong current and waves here.
  • Garachico – A natural basin in a lava cliff, with a stony beach. A very beautiful area.
  • Los Gigantes – A small sandy beach next to the steep cliffs that Los Gigantes is so famous for.
  • Playa de Arena – A fine, dark volcanic sand with palms and flowers. A beautiful beach with a great view of the cliffs of Los Gigantes.
  • Playa Paraiso – A seawater basin.
  • El Laguillo – A swimming pool complex in Los Gigantes.
  • Playa de Masca – This beach can be reached on foot or by boat. On foot you will face a fairly difficult descent of about 3 hours. You can reach the beach by boat from Los Gigantes marina or from Playa San Juan. The beach has pebbles and black volcanic sand.

Please note that there are sometimes dangerous currents and high waves, especially on small open beaches. For this reason, don’t swim too far away. On the major beaches, flags give you instructions regarding swimming:

  • Green flag – Ideal swimming weather
  • Yellow flag – Swim at your own risk
  • Red flag – Swimming prohibited
